Fayard's Key Takeaways from New Orleans Saints training camp: Aug. 31

Andrus Peat in pads, Patrick Robinson continues to shine

Observations from New Orleans Saints training camp practice on Monday, Aug. 31, from the indoor practice facility at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center:

  1. PEAT APPEARANCE: Pro Bowl left guard Andrus Peat was dressed for the full-pads practice Monday, the first time Peat has been dressed for practice in training camp. He didn't participate in team drills – he did some conditioning work on the side – but having him back in uniform and on the field is a positive step toward the regular season.
  2. WELCOME COMMITTEE: The tradition for new Saints defensive players is for them to do up-downs prior to practice, circled by teammates. That was the penance for defensive ends Anthony Lanier II and T.J. Carter, and linebacker Wynton McManis on Monday.
  3. BELIEVE IT: All the good things you've heard or seen written about cornerback Patrick Robinson – believe them. P-Rob has been that good in training camp. In one-on-one drills Monday, he forced an incompletion with outstanding coverage, then had a pass breakup in the red zone. Robinson is healthy, and he looks very capable of playing outside corner or sliding inside to play nickel.
