SAINTS POSTGAME NOTES
- New Orleans falls to 0-1 in the preseason after its 27-13 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers in Sofi Stadium. The Saints return to action on Sunday, Aug. 17 when they play the Jacksonville Jaguars at the Ceasars Superdome following three days of practice in Southern California from Tuesday-Thursday. Kickoff on Sunday is set for noon CST. The game will be aired regionally on the Gray Television network of stations in the Gulf Coast (WVUE-8 in the New Orleans area).
- Defensive end Fadil Diggs and defensive tackle Khristian Boyd each recorded sacks, Boyd's takedown for a 7-yard loss at the Chargers' 1-yard line was initially ruled a safety prior to a replay reversal.
- Defensively, the Saints held Los Angeles to five of- 3 (38.5%) on third-down conversions.
- New Orleans beat out Los Angeles in the first down category16-15.
- The passing attack for the Saints was efficient, as the entire quarterback room went 25 of 38 (67.6 percent) for 245 yards and a touchdown, with quarterback Tyler Shough tossing the only one of the contest in the third quarter.
- Spencer Rattlerreceived the start and completed seven-of-11 passes for 54 yards.
- Shough connected to receiver Mason Tipton on a 54-yard bomb to throw his first official NFL touchdown in a Saints uniform. In relief of Rattler, Shough completed 15-of-22 throws for 165 yards with the touchdown and one interception.
- Jake Haenersaw action in the fourth quarter and completed five-of-eight throws for 41 yards.
- Linebacker Jaylan Ford led the New Orleans defense in stops. He recorded eight total tackles, five of them being solo, both leading the team.
- Linebacker Isaiah Stalbird, defensive end Chris Rumph II, and Diggs each posted three solo tackles. Stalbird finished with four total defensive tackles and a club-best four special teams stops (three solo), leading a unit that allowed only seven return yards on three punt returns and 89 return yards on four kickoff returns (22.3 avg.).
- Rattler led the team in rushing with 22 yards on just three carries (7.3 avg). running back Kendre Miller led the team in carries with six, as he totaled 15 yards.
- Tipton led the receivers in yards with 54, but receiver Kevin Austin Jr.also had a productive day, totaling four receptions for 42 yards (10.5 avg). Receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. also contributed catching three balls for 37 yards (12.3 avg.), including nabbing a pass for a 21-yard gain from Rattler.
- On kickoff returns, running back Velus Jones Jr. recorded two for 73 yards (36.5 avg.), including a game-long 46-yard runback. Miller returned one for 36 yards and cornerback Jayden Price had a 25-yard runback.
- Kai Kroegerpunted three times for 139 yards (46.3 avg) with one being inside the 20-yard line. James Burnip punted three times for 101 yards with two of his punts inside the 20.
- Tight end Treyton Welch recovered a fumble on punt coverage in the first quarter.
