New Orleans Saints fans voted the team's preseason home opener against the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots as the team's preseason contest they are most excited about on a poll on NewOrleansSaints.com last week.
The Saints face the Patriots on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 6:30 pm CT in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The Patriots contest earned 59 percent of the 1,604 votes. The poll results of the other 3 contests: at Green Bay Packers on Sept. 3 (22 percent), vs Houston Texans on Aug. 30 (14%) and at Baltimore Ravens on Aug. 13 (6%).
The Saints-Patriots game will mark the first time that the Saints have hosted the Super Bowl XLIX Champions in the preseason since 1986 and the first time the Saints play a defending Super Bowl champion in the preseason since they played at the Patriots in 2005. New England holds a 6-4 edge in the preseason series.
