New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the team has hired Thomas Dimitroff as a consultant.
Dimitroff, 59, enters his first season in New Orleans and 29th NFL season after previously serving in the front offices of the Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs. Dimitroff served as General Manager of the Falcons from 2008-20, where he helped lead Atlanta to Super Bowl LI. The Falcons qualified for the postseason six times during his tenure and he was named the NFL Executive of the Year in both 2008 and 2010.
Originally born in Barberton, Ohio, Dimitroff grew up in Canada where his father, Thomas Dimitroff Sr., was a football coach with the Ottawa Rough Riders, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and the University of Guelph in Ontario. Dimitroff went on to play defensive back at Guelph for five seasons (1985-90). He began his scouting career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL as their scouting coordinator in 1990-91 and then was an NFL scout for the World League of American Football in 1992.
His first NFL experience came as a part-time scout in 1993 and transitioned to a full-time area scout with the Lions from 1994-97. He moved to the Browns from 1998-2001 and then joined the Patriots as a national scout in 2002 under Bill Belichick. After one season, he was promoted to director of college scouting in 2003 and was part of two Super Bowl-winning teams with the Patriots.
