Steve Gleason named finalist for Vine of the Year

The winner will be announced on April 7

After receiving hundreds of fan nominations, Steve Gleason has been named a finalist for Vine of the Year in the 2014 Shorty Awards, The Real-Time Academy of Short-Form Arts and Sciences announced Tuesday.

Gleason posted this Vine of how he tweets to help promote him as NBC's guest social media analyst for the Saints NFC Wild Card game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Gleason tweets with his eyes using his wheelchair mounted computer. Along with tweeting, Gleason speaks through a synthetic voice, reads and responds to email, plays iTunes and surfs the Internet with just his eyes.

On the day of the Saints-Eagles game, Gleason's Twitter account (@TeamGleason) gained 21,719 and another 2,533 the day after.

The Real-Time Academy will select which finalists win the Shorty Award for each category and the winners will be revealed at the ceremony on April 7th, 2014 at The TimesCenter at the New York Times building in New York City. The New Orleans Saints were also named a finalist for a Shorty Award.
