Sean Kelley's key takeaways from Saturday's Saints practice

Max Unger shined in pass rush/protection drill

White Sulphur Springs, W. Va  - Here are some observations from Saturday's practice, the first in pads for the New Orleans Saints at the 2015 training camp presented by Verizon.

  1. A feature period was the pass rush drill between the offensive linemen and the defensive linemen/outside linebackers. Center Max Unger is a beast and shined in protection. Terron Armstead continued to show why he is so valuable at left tackle. On the defensive side, I liked what I saw from Cam Jordan and Kasim Edabali. For the rookies, it was a bit of a wake-up call.
  1. Delvin Breaux continues to be a nice watch in the defensive secondary. He seems very comfortable as a newcomer and continues to cover well and get his hands on balls thrown to his assignment.
  1. Both kickers fared well. Zach Hocker and Dustin Hopkins each went four for four in live attempts from various distances and hash marks.
  1. Coach Sean Payton's post-practice press conference was full of information. It's worth watching on NewOrleansSaints.com. He talked about the importance of getting his first look at his team in pads and he gave good insight on some key players.
