Sean Kelley's key takeaways from Monday's Saints practice

A number of players returned to practice

White Sulphur Springs, W. Va. - The New Orleans Saints went back to full pads for Monday's morning practice at The Greenbrier. The coaching staff used the early portion of practice for one-on-one drills and plenty of teaching during positional breakouts. Team periods featured run and play action along with two-minute and red zone installs. Here are some other observations.

  1. I'm trying to figure out if receivers Nick Toon and Josh Morgan are in a bit of a battle to fill a spot. Their skill sets have some similarities. Their ability to contribute on special teams may be a deciding factor.
  1. Hau Kikaha, Stephone Anthony, and Delvin Breaux are three guys I will be watching intently during this week's preseason game at Baltimore. They are players tracking toward big roles on the defense.
  1. If Seantavious Jones has the nickname "Stretch," then I'm going with "The Fire Hydrant" for defensive lineman Tyeler Davison.  At a stout 6 feet 2 309 pounds, he's a load to move around.
  1. Knock on wood. It's good to see some players returning to health this week. Brandon Coleman, Brandin Cooks, Josh Hill, and Cyril Lemon all were in full pads and participating Monday.
