Teams squaring off in the Superdome

First quarter update: The New Orleans Saints defense forced two turnovers and the offense turned that into a 7-0 lead on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

David Hawthorne drilled Bills quarterback Thad Lewis on the first play from scrimmage forcing a fumble that Junior Galette recovered. The Saints didn't convert on that scoring chance - Garrett Hartley missed a 47-yard field-goal attempt - but did on their second chance.

Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan sacked Lewis and forced a fumble that Jordan recovered. Saints quarterback Drew Brees quickly hit Lance Moore on a 15-yard scoring pass for a 7-0 Saints lead.

Key stats: Drew Brees, 5 of 6, 37 yards, one TD; Lance Moore, one catch for 15 yards, one TD. Bills, Thad Lewis, 2 of 6, 19 yards. Fred Jackson, six carries for 42 yards.
