Saints Sign 4th-Round Pick Al Woods

Former LSU Tiger signs 4-year contract

The New Orleans Saints have signed their 2010 fourth-round draft choice defensive tackle Al Woodsto a four-year contract, it was announced today by Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Woods, a native of Elton, La., was taken by the Saints with the 123rd overall selection in the draft following a solid college career at LSU. The 6-foot-4-inch, 307-pound lineman took over a starting position for the Tigers as a senior in 2009, starting all 13 games and making 33 tackles with a sack, two pass defenses and a blocked field goal.

For his career, Woods started 16 of the 41 games he played and recorded 73 tackles, 3½ sacks, three fumble recoveries and two pass defenses. He played in 12 games and led the SEC with three fumble recoveries during LSU's national championship season of 2007.

Woods is the first of the Saints' six 2010 draft choices under contract. The New Orleans roster currently stands at the league-maximum 80 active players.
