Saints Coach Sean Payton addresses Keenan Lewis' status

Team will move on from veteran cornerback who has been dealing with injury

Houston - New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton was asked about cornerback Keenan Lewis following Saturday's 16-9 loss to the Houston Texans in the second game of preseason.

A social media post on Lewis' Instagram account Friday evening sparked numerous reports that the New Orleans native had been released. Lewis has been trying to recover from an injury that sidelined him for most of the 2015 season and allowed him to practice just once with the team during the 2016 training camp.

"it's always a difficult decision," Payton said Saturday evening. "...It's about availability ultimately."

Lewis signed with the Saints prior to the 2013 season and started the first 32 games of his Saints career, registering six interceptions. But the Oregon State product played just six games last season with zero starts, no interceptions and just two passes defensed.
