New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the club has agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent punter Ryan Wright on a multi-year contract.
Wright, 6 feet 4, 250 pounds, was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings following the 2022 NFL Draft out of Tulane. In 68 career games for the Vikings, he has punted 253 times for 12,118 yards (47.9 gross avg. – fifth in the NFL since 2022, 42.4 net avg.), with 100 punts inside the 20-yard line.
In 2025, the San Ramon, Calif., native punted 65 times for 3,184 yards (49.0 gross avg. – sixth in the NFL, 44.5 net – third in the NFL), and had 25 pinned inside the 20-yard line while holding for all field goal and extra-point attempts. Wright's touchback percentage on punts has also decreased in three consecutive seasons. As a rookie in 2022, Wright earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors in Week Six, where he punted 10 times for 441 yards 44.1 gross avg., 43.9 net average), including a 73-yard punt, the seventh longest in franchise history, against Miami.
In four seasons with the Green Wave (2018-21), Wright developed into one of the most productive punters in program history, appearing in 47 games and punting 200 times for 8,909 yards (44.5 gross avg.), 60 punts of 50 yards, had 59 punts downed inside the 20-yard line, and had a career-long punt of 69 yards.
