Notes from Sean Payton's Wednesday Conference Call

Sean Payton held a conference call on Wednesday

Note from Sean Payton's Wednesday conference call with local media members:

He opened the call by announcing a number of roster moves.

Sean Payton on not placing S Jairus Byrd on PUP: "There is a strong sentiment that it will be less than (6 weeks) for his return."

On releasing 2014 second round draft pick DB Stanley Jean-Baptiste: "We are disappointed. You get frustrated. There were times where you saw progress and other times you didn't see the consistency you wanted."

Sean Payton on the report about DE Cameron Jordan being involved in incident at a nightclub over the weekend: "We are gathering the information. We are aware of it. I am anxious to find out more"

On only keeping four wide receivers on the active roster: Payton said they could potentially add another wide receiver soon but it was more about "evaluating the overall roster."

Sean Payton on Zach Hocker wining the kicker battle heading into the season: It was really close...I don't know if we went into it with a preconceived idea on who it would it be. Each of them had some traits that we like. Zach has a very consistent stroke."

He added they didn't factor in kickoffs because Thomas Morstead is a luxury that they don't take for granted.

On opening against the Cardinals: "It's an aggressive defense with a lot of different pressure packages. Offensively, it's a team that is built around big plays. They have really good speed at wide receiver. Two good running backs. Carson Palmer really makes it all go."

On Drew Brees jumping on a crocodile on "Running Wild With Bear Grylls": Payton said when he first heard of Brees jumping on a crocodile he thought it would be a "Sea World atmosphere" not Panama.

"When you live in Louisiana you don't have to go to South America to jump on a crocodile," Payton joked.

Payton said he knows they probably had a lot of other precautionary measures that they couldn't see on television. "I am sure they had him in safe hands."
