New Orleans Saints vs Tennessee Titans notebook

News and notes from the preseason home opener

*The Saints improved to 2-0 in the preseason with Friday's 31-24 victory over the Tennessee Titans. New Orleans will meet the Indianapolis Colts in its next preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. CDT.
*The Saints have won their first two preseason games in consecutive seasons for the first time since a streak of four straight 2-0 starts from 1990-93.
*New Orleans has won at least two preseason games for the eighth consecutive season.
*The win over the Titans snapped a three-game losing streak to Tennessee in the preseason. Before Friday, New Orleans' last win over Tennessee was in the 2006 preseason opener - Sean Payton's first game as Saints coach.
*The Saints went 80 yards in 16 plays on their first offensive series, with QB Luke McCown capping the drive on a 6-yard pass to TE Jimmy Graham. McCown and Graham would connect again for a 19-yard score in the second quarter.
*Playing nearly the entire first half, McCown finished 12 of 20 for 117 yards, two touchdowns and a passer rating of 109.8.
*Luke McCown, QB Ryan Griffin led the Saints offense to a touchdown on his first possession. Griffin connected with RB Mark Ingram for a 23-yard scoring pass with 1:18 left in the first half to give the Saints a 21-17 halftime lead.
*Griffin, playing into the fourth quarter, finished 13 of 19 for 179 yards, two touchdowns and a passer rating of 133.4. He also had a fourth-quarter scoring pass to rookie WR Seantavious Jones.
*WR Joseph Morgan had a team-high 108 yards receiving on three catches, including a 52-yard reception from Griffin on the play preceding Ingram's touchdown catch.
*The Saints defense forced five turnovers (two interceptions, three fumbles), the most by a New Orleans defense in the preseason since a 2002 game at Miami. New Orleans has only had five takeaways in the regular and postseason twice in the last decade - in the 2009 NFC Championship Game against Minnesota and a 2012 home shutout of Tampa Bay.
*OLB Junior Galette's third-down sack of QB Jake Locker in the second quarter stopped a Tennessee drive and forced a field goal attempt. Galette had a career-best 12 sacks in 2013.
*The Saints' defense set up the second New Orleans score of the night when S Kenny Vaccaro forced and S Rafael Bush recovered a fumble at the Titans 35-yard line.
*On the Saints' next defensive snap, Vaccaro sacked QB Charlie Whitehurst for an 11-yard loss.
*New Orleans added a second turnover in the final minute of the first half when DE Cameron Jordan forced a fumble on a sack and DE Akiem Hicks recovered. Jordan had a team-high 12.5 sacks along with two forced fumbles in 2013.
*Two Saints rookies had second-half interceptions. CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste recorded the Saints' third takeaway of the game in the third quarter, and S Vinnie Sunseri had an INT and 19-yard return in the fourth quarter.
*NT Brandon Deaderick came up with the Saints' fifth takeaway with a fourth-quarter fumble recovery.
