Saints win third consecutive preseason opener

*The Saints start the preseason 1-0. Their next contest is on Friday, August 16 when they host the Oakland Raiders at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

*This marks the third consecutive season the Saints have won their preseason opener. The last preseason opener dropped by the Saints was a 27-24 loss at the New England Patriots on August 12, 2010.

*The Saints now lead the preseason series against the Chiefs 6-4. The Saints have not lost in the preseason to Kansas City since 1996..

*New Orleans outgained the Chiefs 427-215. New Orleans dominated the time of possession with 37:18 to the Chiefs' 22:42.

*QB Drew Brees played two series' in the first half, completing seven of 10 passes for 65 yards and a passer rating of 87.5. In the club's second possession, Brees engineered a 10-play, 59-yard drive that ended with a 24-yard field goal by K Garrett Hartley.

*Playing most of the second and third quarters, QB Luke McCown completed 18 of 28 passes for 216 yards, a pair of two-yard touchdown passes in the third quarter to WR Preston Parker, one interception and a 96.7 passer rating.

*Rookie QB Ryan Griffin, no stranger to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome from his college days at Tulane University, took over behind center in the fourth quarter and completed four of nine passes for 27 yards.

RB Travaris Cadethad a team-high 13 carries for 40 yards.* **The second-year runner also had two catches for 20 yards.

*Rookie RB Khiry Robinsontook over running backs duties in the fourth quarter and carried 12 times for a team-leading 52 yards. He also caught two passes for 15 yards, including a 17-yard gain.

*WR Nick Toonled New Orleans in receiving yardage with four catches for 66 yards, including consecutive receptions of 22 and 17 yards, as well as a seven-yard grab for a successful third down conversion on the first drive of the second half.

*WR Andy Tanneralso enjoyed an impressive night with three grabs for 59 yards, including a second quarter 37-yard catch and a pair of third down conversions on the first drive of the second half.

In his New Orleans Saints debut, Parker* **tied the score on a two-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter and later scored on a two-yard grab near the end of the third period to give the Saints a 17-10 lead. The third-year wideout also made a spectacular 33-yard reception later in the third quarter. He finished with four catches for 43 yards.

*On a key third down play following Parker's first touchdown, DE Glenn Foster sacked Chiefs QB Tyler Bray, forcing him to fumble and the ball was picked up by DE Jay Richardson at midfield.
CB Jabari Greer posted two solo tackles and had one sack of Chiefs QB Alex Smith

*Rookie S Kenny Vaccaro, the club's first round pick, in his NFL debut, had a team-high six tackles (three solo).

*In his NFL debut rookie NT John Jenkins had a sack of Chiefs QB Chase Danielfor -8 yards in the second quarter.
