Cooks made his NFL debut and his first reception was a 32-yard pass play from Brees

The Saints (0-1) will next play at the Cleveland Browns (0-1) on September 14. Kickoff is 12:00 p.m. CT.

  • New Orleans falls to 17-31 in season openers. Today marked only the 15th time in the 48-year history of the franchise the Saints have opened on the road.
  • New Orleans falls to 43-47 against Atlanta. It's New Orleans' second loss in eight games against the Falcons and the Saints are 12-11 at the Georgia Dome all-time.
  • The Saints offense finished with 30 first downs and converted on eight of 13 third-down attempts (62%).
  • QB Drew Brees completed 29 of 42 passes for 333 yards, one touchdown, one interception and a passer rating of 90.7.
  • With his second quarter touchdown pass to rookie WR Brandin Cooks, Cooks became the 46th player that Brees has connected with for a touchdown in his 14-year NFL career.
  • WR Marques Colston caught five passes for 110 yards today, including a third quarter 57-yard reception. It was Colston's longest grab since a 60-yard catch at Dallas on December 23, 2012.
  • Cooks made his NFL debut and his first reception was a 32-yard pass play from Brees. On New Orleans' first series, he posted three receptions for 48 yards. Overall, Cooks finished with seven receptions for 77 yards with one touchdown and one rush for 18 yards. His seven grabs tied a Saints rookie record in their NFL debut with RB Reggie Bush who had seven grabs in his Saints debut at Cleveland on September 10, 2006.
  • RB Pierre Thomas carried seven times for 31 yards and also added six receptions for 58 yards. Thomas moved past RB Tony Galbreath (284) into eighth place on the club's all-time receiving list with 288 grabs.
  • RB Khiry Robinson carried six times for 28 yards with one touchdown.
  • RB Mark Ingram had 13 carries for a club-best 60 yards, including a go-ahead three-yard touchdown run in the third quarter with five- and 22-yard runs prior to the score. Ingram also added a go-ahead three-yard touchdown run with 1:20 remaining in the fourth quarter. It was Ingram's first career two-touchdown game.
  • TE Jimmy Graham recorded a team-high eight receptions for 82 yards.
  • CB Corey White, a native of neighboring Dunwoody, Ga., had six solo tackles and had a key fumble recovery of a ball in Atlanta WR Julio Jones' hands that was forced out by S Jairus Byrd. This was the second consecutive season that White had a fumble recovery at Atlanta.
  • Byrd made his Saints debut and finished with five solo tackles and the forced fumble.
  • ILB Curtis Lofton posted 10 tackles (seven solo).
  • K Shayne Graham booted 31- and 50-yard field goal attempts in the first quarter. The 50-yarder was the 14th 50-yard plus field goal of Graham's career.
