New Orleans Saints Sign LB Anthony Spencer To A One-Year Contract

Anthony Spencer is an eight-year NFL veteran

The New Orleans Saints have signed LB Anthony Spencer to a one-year contract. The announcement was made by Saints' Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Spencer, an eight-year NFL veteran was originally a first round draft pick (26th overall) of the Dallas Cowboys in 2007 and has played both linebacker and defensive end as a professional. In his eight seasons in Dallas, he played in 104 games with 67 starts and has posted 497 tackles (317 solo), 33 sacks, 17 passes defensed, 12 forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.

In 2014, Spencer rebounded from a knee injury that sidelined him for all but one contest in 2013 and appeared in 13 games at defensive end, recording 25 stops (0.5 sacks, a pass defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery brought back for a touchdown. He appeared in both postseason contests and added two more tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. Spencer enjoyed his most productive campaign in 2012, when he was selected to the Pro Bowl at linebacker and posted career-highs in tackles (106) and sacks (11), while adding two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
