New Orleans Saints release Jason Smith

Former No. 2 draft pick by the Rams had been signed this offseason to compete for the starting left tackle spot

The New Orleans Saints released offensive tackle Jason Smith on Tuesday, Coach Sean Payton announced Wednesday at his post-practice press briefing.

Smith, a former second overall draft choice of the St. Louis Rams in 2009, was in competition for the left tackle position but Charles Brown has been taking the bulk of the snaps with the first string and the Saints drafted tackle Terron Armstead in the third round of this year's draft. Smith played last season for the New York Jets.
