New Orleans Saints draft Florida LB Ronald Powell with the 29th pick (169 overall) in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

COLLEGE CAREER – A tall, lean, muscular athlete, Powell returned to the lineup for the Gators in 2013 after missing the 2012 season with a knee injury and finished with 26 tackles (19 solo), leading the team with four sacks. Overall at Florida, he appeared in 37 career games with 21 starts and finished with 83 tackles (55 solo), 11 sacks, 19 tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and two passes defensed, leading his team in takedowns in two of his three campaigns in Gainesville. Powell will seek a spot in the club's outside linebacker corps, while immediately competing and contributing on special teams.

2013– Returned to the field after missing the 2012 season (knee) and played in 12 games with nine starts, shuttling between two outside linebacker positions
Recorded 26 tackles (19 solo), leading the team with four sacks and with seven stops going for losses
Had three tackles for a loss and a sack vs. Miami
Also had takedowns vs. Georgia and Vanderbilt in back-to-back weeks. 2012 – Missed entire season with a season-ending knee injury. 2011– Started 12 games, missing the Auburn contest due to a left knee sprain, and registered a career-high 32 tackles (20 solo), with a team-high six sacks and ranking fourth on the squad with nine stops for losses
Opened the season with three solo tackles and a sack vs. Florida Atlantic
Posted three solo tackles and a sack vs. Georgia, followed by another sack among two stops-for-loss vs. Vanderbilt
Collected a season-high five solo tackles that included causing a fumble on a sack, adding another stop behind the line of scrimmage vs. Florida State. 2010– Appeared in all 13 games with one start at outside linebacker in the Appalachian State contest
Finished with 25 tackles (16 solo), adding one sack, three stops for losses and two passes defensed
Registered nine tackles (six solo) vs. Appalachian State.

Named a High School All-American by USA Today, Parade and EA Sports
Selected to play in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl and earned MVP honors in addition to being a finalist for the U.S. Army Player of the Year Award
