Dolphins add a a field goal in mistake-plagued second period


New Orleans Saints at Miami Dolphins halftime update: The sloppiness commonly asssociated with fourth preseason games - or in the Dolphins' case, a fifth one - appeared in this period as the Saints ruined drives with penalties while the Dolphins missed out on two excellent scoring chances but still lead 13-7.

The Saints' ended the half with 10 penalties for 75 yards and two turnovers as quarterback Ryan Griffin fumbled a snap near the Saints' goal line. The defense bailed the rookie out as it stopped the Dolphins on a fourth-and-goal from the 1.

New Orleans ended another potential Miami scoring chance when Korey Lindsey came up with an interception of Pat Devlin near the goal line. Miami did get a 40-yard field goal from Caleb Sturgis in the quarter.

Two Saints players left the field - receiver Nick Toon and cornerback Chris Carr.

Key stats: Saints, Ryan Griffin, 8 of 13 for 81 yards. Khiry Robinson, four receptions for 39 yards; Nick Toon, three receptions for 31 yards. Dolphins - Pan Devlin, 13 of 21 for 142 yards, 1 TD, 1 interception; Mike Gillislee, nine carries for 30 yards.
