New Orleans Saints announce two roster moves

Team signs tackle Jason Weaver, releases WR Chris Givens

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Tuesday that the club has signed tackle Jason Weaver and waived wide receiver Chris Givens.

Weaver is a New Orleans native who prepped at Edna Karr High School and was originally signed following the 2013 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers out of Southern Mississippi. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound tackle appeared in 29 games with 27 starts at Southern Mississippi, serving as their starting right tackle in 2012 and 2013. In 2011, he earned second-team All-Conference USA honors and as a redshirt senior in 2012, he was a conference honorable mention selection. Weaver initially started three games in 2010 before suffering a season-ending knee injury after transferring from Arizona Western Community College, where he was an NJCAA All-American. In addition to spending the 2013 offseason with the Buccaneers, Weaver went to 2013 training camp with the Cincinnati Bengals and competed during the regular season on the practice squad of the Miami Dolphins.
