New Orleans Saints rookie safety Kenny Vaccaro suffered a fractured ankle in Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, coach Sean Payton announced on a conference call with local reporters on Monday.

Payton said Vaccaro would fly to Charlotte, N.C. for surgery on Tuesday.

The first-year Saint started in all 14 games that he played in this season and earned 92 tackles (58 solo), one sack (8 yard loss), one interception, six pass defenses and one forced fumble.
