Jairus Byrd returns to practice for New Orleans Saints

Star safety participated in his first practice of training camp Tuesday

New Orleans Saints safety Jairus Byrd, the team's top free agent pickup this offseason, was removed from the PUP list Tuesday and practiced with the team, Saints Coach Sean Payton announced after practice.

In other injury news, receiver Robert Meachem returned to practice as did rookie offensive tackle Tavon Rooks, who was on the non-football injury list. Receiver Kenny Stills, out with a right quad injury, didn't practice. Right guard Ben Grubbs also sat out the workout. John Jenkins remains on the PUP.

Payton said the team plans to "be smart about the reps," with Byrd.
