Drew Brees nominated for FedEx Air Player of the Year

Drew Brees led the NFL in passing yards with 4,870

Drew Brees has been nominated for the FedEx Air Player of the Year, the NFL announced Friday

Along with Brees, Patriots' Tom Brady and Cardinals' Carson Palmer are up for the award.

Brees has won the award four times previously (2011, 2009, 2008, 2006).

During the weeks leading up to Super Bowl 50, Saints fans have the chance to cast their vote here for Brees. Voting ends Feb. 4.

Brees' 4,870 passing yards were the most in the NFL this season and he is the first player to lead the league in passing yards six times. Brees threw 32 touchdowns this season and has thrown for at least 30 touchdowns in an NFL-record eight consecutive seasons. Brees has the fourth-most career passing yards (60,903) and is tied with Brady for the third-most touchdown passes (428).

As part of the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week program, FedEx will donate $25,000 to the local American Red Cross chapters of the winners of the FedEx Air & Ground Players of the Year awards. The charitable contributions will help assist the Red Cross in its efforts to provide disaster relief and recovery services to individuals and families across the country.

Throughout the 2015-16 season, FedEx supported its commitment to serving the community by making weekly $2,000 donations to local Red Cross Chapters in each of the weekly winning players' names. This amounted to a total contribution of $118,000 this season.

FedEx will announce the 2015 FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Year winners at the "5th Annual NFL Honors" awards show in San Francisco, a two-hour primetime special to air nationally on February 6 on CBS the night before Super Bowl 50.
