Drew Brees gives a thumb's up following surgery

Saints quarterback takes to social media to give fans an update

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees used his social media accounts to give fans an update on his thumb surgery, which was performed Wednesday, Sept. 18 in Los Angeles.

Before the surgery, Brees posted a sweet message to his wife Brittany on her birthday.

The 40-year-old quarterback hurt his thumb during the first quarter of last Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Rams when he was hit by defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Sunday's game against Seattle (2-0) will be the first game Brees has missed because of an injury since 2015. It is unclear how long he will be out of the Saints' lineup.

The Saints (1-1) are staying in Seattle all week preparing for Sunday's game at CenturyLink Field. Coach Sean Payton would not say whether Teddy Bridgewater or Taysom Hill would start. Bridgewater replaced Brees vs. the Rams and played the rest of the game, a 27-9 loss.
