Newly signed Saints WR Greg Camarillo said his path to the Crescent City can trace back to the offseason.

Camarillo worked out with Saints QBs Drew Brees, Sean Canfield and Chase Daniel in San Diego starting in mid-June and going through July. Both Camarillo and Brees spend time in San Diego during the summer and Camarillo credits the club's gunslingers for advising the Saints on his ability.

"I spent the whole offseason working out with Drew so I would like to think he put in a good word for me," Camarillo joked after Monday's practice. "As long as Brees was in San Diego, we were throwing and catching."

Camarillo, a 6-2, 200-pound wideout has played in 75 career games with 28 starts in stints with the San Diego Chargers (2005), Miami Dolphins (2007-09) and Minnesota Vikings (2010-11). He has career totals of 142 receptions for 1,686 yards (11.9 avg.) with five touchdowns.

Camarillo said he hopes to get back to playing at the level he did from 2008-09 when he posted back-to-back 50-plus reception and 500-plus yard seasons.

"(New Orleans) is an ideal place for a wide receiver to be," said Camarillo. "I just have to pick up the offense and try to fit in."
