Anthero "Nick" Nicolau, former Saints assistant coach, dies

He was assistant coach on 1980 team

Anthero "Nick" Nicolau, who was an assistant coach on the 1980 New Orleans Saints team, has died. He was 81. Nicolau had a 40-year coaching career that went from the high school ranks to colleges and finally the NFL and the Canadian Football League.

In addition to the Saints, Nicolau coached for the Broncos, the Raiders, the Bills, Colts, Jaguars, Chargers and Steelers in the NFL.

His funeral will be Wednesday in Wareham, Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, NY NY 10163-4777.
