25 Reasons to Get Excited about 2013 Saints Training Camp Presented by Verizon: No. 24 John Jenkins

NewOrleansSaints.com will showcase one reason a day to get excited about the start of the 2013 New Orleans Saints Training Camp presented by Verizon. Reason No. 24 defensive tackle John Jenkins

John Jenkins was selected by the Saints in the third round (82nd overall) out of Georgia.

With his imposing size (6 feet 3, 359 pounds), tremendous strength and the ability to take on multiple blockers, Jenkins manned the center of the Bulldogs' defense from the nose guard position, where he was named the team's Defensive Co-MVP as a senior.

He started 20 of 27 games during his two years at Georgia after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He recorded 78 tackles (36 solo), four sacks for a loss of 26 yards, eight stops for a loss of 32 yards and 24 quarterback pressures. Jenkins also had an interception, a pass deflection, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

Quotes on Jenkins:

Sean Payton (June 5, 2013):

"I think for a guy that plays the nose, pad level technique is No. 1. He is going to be playing against stronger offensive fronts, and then there are some nuances with the line, so the technique, the stamina, and playing with that pad level and on a consistent basis I think would be some things that come to mind. Obviously, we pay a lot of attention to a lineman and assignment, so there are some things that will come easy to him because he has experience at that and then there will be some other things that he has to work at."

Jenkins on transitioning from college to the NFL (June 5, 2013):

"It's a great experience. It involves a lot of studying. Everything is football oriented. You don't have school anymore or other distractions. If it's not football, you can push it to the side. I like that aspect of being a pro."
