The New Orleans Saints had a rough start to open the game and trail the Seattle Seahawks 38-6 at halftime on Sunday at Lumen Field in Seattle.
The Saints (0-2) gave up a 95-yard punt return for a touchdown, had another Kai Kroeger punt blocked to set up another Seattle touchdown and had multiple penalties to undermine its effort in the first road game of the season. It was the first blocked punt the Saints have given up since 2011 (222 games). The Saints also gave up a 60-yard kickoff return. Prior to the miscues on special teams, the Saints turned the ball over on downs on the opening possession.
The Saints are playing without right tackle Taliese Fuaga and while Trevor Penning was active he didn't get the start at left guard. New Orleans safety Justin Reid and cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry left the game to be evaluated for concussions but were cleared to return.
Kicker Blake Grupe scored the team's only points on 27- and 23-yard field goals but missed a 52-yard attempt in the second quarter. Quarterback Spencer Rattler was 21 of 28 for 140 yards with receiver Chris Olave grabbing eight passes for 46 yards. Running back Akvin Kamara had 14 carries for 41 yards.
Defensive end Cameron Jordanplayed in his 229th career game, surpassing Drew Brees for the most games played in Saints history. Jordan also moved into a tie for 12th in NFL record books for games played by a defensive lineman with Keith Traylor.
The Seahawks (1-1) will get the ball to start the second half.
