The New Orleans Saints grabbed a 9-6 halftime lead over the New York Jets in the home finale on Sunday at the Caesars Superdome.
Kicker Charlie Smyth made field goals of 35, 49 yards and 36 yards for all of the Saints' points. New York scored on two Nick Folk field goals. Smyth missed a 61-yard attempt on the final play of the half.
Quarterback Tyler Shough was 21 of 32 for 206 yards with receiver Chris Olave a major factor with six catches for 58 yards. Taysom Hill saw extensive action, carrying six times for 21 yards, catching two passes for 24 yards and converting a fake punt for a first down. He did lose a fumble on the opening possession. Tight end Juwan Johnson had a big half with seven catches for 82 yards.
Veteran defensive end Cameron Jordan sacked Jets quarterback Brady Cook twice late in the second quarter. Jordan has 8.5 sacks this season and 130 for his career, surpassing Pro Football Hall of Famer Rickey Jackson to take sole possession of 17th all-time. Cook is the 51st quarterback Jordan has sacked. The Jets had 92 yards of offense in the half.
The Jets (3-11) will get the ball to start the second half. If the Saints (4-10) win it will give them a three-game winning streak with two to play.
