Sean Payton agrees to five-year extension with the New Orleans Saints

Payton confirmed the news at the NFC coaches breakfast during the NFL annual meeting Wednesday morning.

New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton has agreed to a five-year extension with the team, he told reporters at the NFC coaches breakfast during the NFL annual meeting in Boca Raton, Florida.

Payton said he had the contract in his briefcase and had been discussing it with ownership, GM Mickey Loomis and Team President Dennis Lauscha since the end of the regular season.

Payton has been with the Saints since 2006 and has the highest winning percentage among the 16 head coaches in Saints history, and he is now tied for first in club record books in wins (93).
