Third quarter update: The Carolina Panthers added a 40-yard field goal by Graham Gano to extend their lead over the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints had one good drive in the period interrupted by a personal foul penalty on Zach Strief. Drew Brees was intercepted by Luke Kuechly at midfield but the Panthers didn't do anything with the offensive possession.

Key stats: Saints, Drew Brees, 23 of 34 for 177 yards and two interceptions; Mark Ingram, nine carries for 79 yards. Panthers, Cam Newton, 7 of 112 for 103 yards and one interception.
