Saints Sign G Terrence Metcalf

Mississippi product signs one-year contract

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Monday that the club has signed free agent guard Terrence Metcalf to a one-year contract and waived guard Joe Tonga.

Metcalf is a veteran of seven NFL seasons, having played from 2002-08 with the Chicago Bears after being selected by Chicago in the third round of the 2002 NFL draft. A 6-4, 310-pound product of the University of Mississippi played in 84 regular-season games for Chicago with 25 starts and played in an additional three postseason games. The Clarksdale, Miss. native was released by Chicago in March 2009 and went to training camp with the Detroit Lions in '09 before being released in their final roster cuts.

Tongais a rookie lineman who was signed by the Saints as a free agent last month.
