For the second straight year the New Orleans Saints will spend a portion of training camp in California practicing at the University of California-Irvine.
This year, New Orleans will be in the state from August 6-15, a span that will include the Aug. 10 preseason opener against the Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
The Saints will practice at Cal-Irvine on the dates around the preseason game.
"We'll start (training camp) in Metairie at our facility," Saints Coach Kellen Moore said Thursday on a conference call with local media. "We'll be home, we'll get into that routine, we will go to California tied around our Chargers preseason game.
"We'll be there August 6-15 for a small window; I think more importantly, it's a really good opportunity for us just to change, put the guys in a little bit of a different environment.
"Those guys will spend a lot of time together naturally when they kind of go on a longer road trip. We feel like that's a great opportunity for our team to continue to connect. And then after that game, we'll be back for two preseason games (against Jacksonville and Denver) and more practices back here in Louisiana."
In 2024, the Saints were based at Cal-Irvine for all of training camp and the first two preseason games on the road against the Cardinals and 49ers, prior to returning to Louisiana ahead of the preseason finale against the Titans.
"It's just kind of a change of scenery for our guys," Moore said. "When we're here, it's our normal environment and I think it's always important at some point in training camp to create a little bit of a different environment. Sometimes it's joint practices with other teams, this year it's going to be a trip out there.
"It's an environment that the organization has great experience with as far as creating a really good routine out there. I think it allows the guys to bond – stay in the same hotel together, do a lot of team activities, and that's always good."
