Center John Hill, member of New Orleans Saints all-50th team, dies

Hill was 68

John Hill, a center who was named to the New Orleans Saints all-50th team in 2016, died Sunday, Oct. 21. He was 68.

The team issued a statement Wednesday morning:

"The New Orleans Saints mourn the loss of center John Hill, who passed away at age 68 on Sunday."

In 10 seasons with New Orleans from 1975-1984, Hill appeared in 138 games and made 134 starts. He currently sits at 20th on the club's all-time games played list. Hill was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in 1992 and was named to the club's all-50th team in 2016.

"For me personally, (football) made me the man I am," Hill said in a 2016 interview the weekend he was honored for being a member of the Saints' all-50th team. "Learning how to overcome obstacles, keep going forward with your goals."

Following his retirement from the NFL, Hill became an insurance agent in Raleigh, N.C.
