New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced that the team has agreed to acquire tackle Asim Richards in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:
- Richards joins the Saints after spending his first two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys where he was selected in the fifth round (169th overall) out of the University of North Carolina. He has appeared in 21 games in his NFL career, including one start, playing on both offense and special teams.
- In 320 total snaps on offense and special teams, Richards has only had one penalty, an offensive holding penalty, called against him.
- During his time with the Cowboys, he participated in a number of community events including the 2023 Rookie Club, Play 60 Week events, Community Corner and Back Together Saturday, Training Camp Heroes Day, 2023 Early Thanksgiving Meal at The Salvation Army, annual team holiday hospital visits, Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas and the Salvation Army Angel Tree Christmas Program.
- Richards appeared in 48 games, including 38 starts, during his collegiate career with the Tar Heels. He earned third-team All-ACC honors in his senior season in 2022.
- The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native attended The Haverford School. He earned All-USA Pennsylvania first-team honors as a senior offensive tackle. He also played at tight end and defensive line during his high school career, posting 133 tackles, 13.0 sacks, 31 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in four seasons. He also played basketball.
