Saints awarded wide receiver Trey Palmer off waivers from Tampa Bay Buccaneers

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced that the club has been awarded wide receiver Trey Palmer off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:

  1. A sixth round selection (191st overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Palmer played in 32 career games including 11 starts for Tampa Bay and accumulated 51 receptions for 557 yards and four receiving touchdowns as well as three rushing attempts for 22 yards. He also added 17 punt returns for 136 yards.
  2. Palmer finished his collegiate career at the University of Nebraska, playing 12 games in his lone season with the Cornhuskers. He set school records with 1,043 receiving yards in a season and the single-game record with 237 yards against Purdue on Oct. 15, 2022. His 71 receptions established a new season high by a wide receiver, while ranking second overall in program history.
  1. Palmer started his collegiate career at Louisiana State University where he played in 28 games in three years with the Tigers, totaling 41 receptions for 458 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 23 punt returns for 188 yards and one touchdown at LSU and 15 kickoff returns for 394 yards and one touchdown. He joined the school in 2019 where he appeared in nine games during the undefeated National Championship season.
  1. The Kentwood, Louisiana native attended Kentwood High School. In his senior year, playing wide receiver and safety, he tallied 1,008 yards with nine touchdowns on 39 receptions as well as 195 tackles, eight tackles for loss, one sack and one interception in 2018. He helped lead the Kangaroos to the Louisiana Class 1A State Championship Game where Kentwood defeated Oak Grove High School, 40-21, to clinch the state title.
  1. Palmer was also a track standout in high school, winning the 100-meter Louisiana 1A title with a time of 10.42 as a senior and recording four 200-meter state championships. He secured his fourth consecutive championship with a time of 21.11 to break a 34-year-old Class 1A meet record. He also ran a leg of Kentwood's state champion 4×200 meter relay team.
