Saints come up short at home against Drake Maye, New England

One team scored touchdowns, the other kicked field goals — that was the difference as the New England Patriots defeated the New Orleans Saints 25-19 on Sunday at the Caesars Superdome.

Drake Maye, New England's second-year quarterback, completed three long touchdown passes and the Patriots added a field goal to give them enough points to improve to 4-2.

Spencer Rattler, New Orleans' second-year quarterback, had a strong outing but only led one touchdown drive as the Saints offense repeatedly stalled in the red zone, being forced to settle for four Blake Grupe field goals. Taysom Hill had a 1-yard run in the first half for the team's lone touchdown.

The loss dropped the Saints to 1-5.

The Patriots scored on three touchdown passes by Maye, 53 yards to DeMario Douglas and 25 and 29 yards to Kayshon Boutte. New England converted a two-point attempt on the final touchdown. At one point, Maye had a perfect passer rating.

Rattler was 20 of 26 for 227 yards but couldn't connect with his receivers in the end zone. Receiver Chris Olave had six catches for 98 yards and running back Alvin Kamara had five receptions for 45 yards. The Saints were marching in the fourth quarter but a coach's challenge by New England resulted in the Patriots being awarded a Juwan Johnson fumble.

Penalties were an issue for both teams as the Saints were called for eight for 67 yards while New England had 11 for 65 yards. One week after forcing five turnovers, the Saints didn't get any against New England.

The Saints will play at the Chicago Bears next Sunday, Oct. 19.
