In just his second start, New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough used a big-play passing attack to lead his team to a 10-7 halftime lead over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in Charlotte.
Shough was 11 of 18 for 194 yards with completions of 62 yards (touchdown to Chris Olave), 52 yards (Juwan Johnson) and 26 yards (Alvin Kamara).
The Saints kept Carolina's offense in check, giving up a touchdown on the opening series and then nothing else. Defensive end Cameron Jordanand defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd had sacks; it was the 125th of Jordan's career. Linebacker Demario Davis had an interception wiped out by a penalty.
Kicker Blake Grupe had a 21-yard field goal in the first quarter.
The Saints (1-8) will get the ball to start the second half.
