New Orleans Saints announce roster moves on Thursday

The team placed RB/RS Marcus Murphy and CB Damian Swann on Reserve/Injured

The New Orleans Saints have made the following roster moves, it was announced by the club today. The Saints waived DE Phillip Hunt.  The team placed RB/RS Marcus Murphy and CB Damian Swann on Reserve/Injured. The team signed CB Tony Carter and RB Kendall Hunter and signed FB Toben Opurum off of the practice squad. The club also added WR Shane Wynn to the Practice Squad. The roster moves were announced by Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Carter, 5-9, 175, is in his fifth NFL season, after playing in three games for the Indianapolis Colts earlier in the 2015 campaign. He spent his first campaign on both the practice squad and active roster of the Denver Broncos, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Florida State in 2009. The Jacksonville, Fla. native has appeared in 43 NFL contests with three starts and has posted career statistics of 49 tackles (44 solo), 19 passes defensed, five fumble recoveries, three interceptions, one returned for a touchdown and three special teams tackles. In 2014, he played in five games for Denver and made five solo tackles, one pass defensed and one fumble recovery. In four years for the Seminoles, he played in 50 games (2005-08), totaling 139 tackles (104 solo), nine interceptions, three returned for touchdowns and 26 passes defensed.

Hunter, 5-7, 199, is a five-year NFL veteran, who was originally a fourth round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2011 out of Oklahoma State. He played in 43 games with one start for San Francisco. He carried 262 times for 1,202 yards with seven touchdowns, made 27 receptions for 268 yards. Hunter has also brought back 17 kickoffs for 402 yards. He missed the 2014 season with a season-ending knee injury suffered in the preseason and had not played in 2015 after reaching an injury settlement with the 49ers early in the season. In 2013, he played in all 16 games for San Francisco and carried 78 times for 358 yards (4.6 avg.) with three touchdowns, also recovering a fumbled kickoff return on special teams and returning it for a score.

Opurum, 6-1, 250, was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2013 out of Kansas. He played in the 2015 season opener for New Orleans and spent the remainder of this season on their practice squad after initially joining the practice roster late in the 2014 campaign. He has also spent one game in 2013 on the roster of the Houston Texans, the season finale at Tennessee. He also enjoyed stints on the practice squads of Houston and Kansas City.

Wynn, 5-6, 167, was signed following the 2015 draft by the Atlanta Falcons out of Indiana, and enjoyed stints on the practice squads of the Chargers and Jets. The Cleveland, Ohio native finished his college career with the Hoosiers tied for second in receptions (189), third in kickoff return yardage (1,854), tied for third in receiving touchdowns (20), ranked fourth in all-purpose yardage (4,429), seventh in receiving yardage (2,198) and tied for eighth in total touchdowns (25).
