New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Tuesday that the club has signed free agent cornerback Michael Davis. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:

  1. A veteran with 122 games played in his NFL career, Davis brings experience under defensive coordinator Brandon Staley's scheme. Davis played under Staley with the Los Angeles Chargers from 2020-2023.
  2. In his 122 games, Davis has started 76 games with the Los Angeles Chargers (2017-2023) and Washington Commanders (2024) and racked up 363 career tackles (282 solo), 70 passes defensed, eight interceptions, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and a sack.
  3. Davis has one touchdown to his name in the NFL. In 2020 during Week 4 with the Chargers, Davis picked off Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady in the first quarter and returned it 76-yards for a touchdown. "It was a dream come true," Davis said following the game. "I missed one on Brady two years ago when we played in New England and I finally got mine this year. Now I've got a GOAT ball — a GOAT ball from the GOAT."
  4. An undrafted free agent from BYU, Davis played in 48 games including 30 starts for the Cougars. He recorded 110 tackles (90 solo), 16 passes defensed, one interception and one forced fumble. He reunites with former college teammate quarterback Taysom Hill. Hill played for the Cougars during all four of Davis' seasons with BYU.
  5. The Glendale, California native attended Glendale High School. A two-way player in high school, Davis had 33 catches, 409 yards and three touchdowns, rushed 39 times for 258 yards and two scores, returned 13 kicks for 394 yards, including a 99-yard return, and recorded 45 tackles as a senior. He also participated in track and field, running the 100-meters in 10.67 seconds and 200-meters in 21.4 seconds which was good for seventh place at the California state championship.
