New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced that the club has agreed to terms with free agent punter Kai Kroeger. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:

  1. Kroeger joins the Saints as an undrafted free agent rookie from the University of South Carolina. Kroeger was the starting punter for five seasons for the Gamecocks. He attempted 265 punts for 11,823 yards, which ranks second all-time in SEC history. He had 99 punts downed within the 20-yard line.
  2. He averaged 44.6 yards per punt (second-best in school history) with his 265 career attempts which stands as a school-record as well as the fifth-most in SEC history. He tied for the most games played in school history with 61. He earned All-SEC and All-American honors in both 2022 and 2024. He was a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award in 2024.
  3. A former high school quarterback, Kroeger completed 7-of-10 passes on fakes for 205 yards with three touchdowns in his collegiate career.
  4. The Lake Forest, Illinois native attended Lake Forest High School and helped lead the Scouts to a 7-5 record and a spot in the 2019 state quarterfinals. He was named to the 2019 IHSFCA honorable mention 6A all-state team.
  5. Kroeger graduated in from South Carolina with a major in history and a minor in criminal justice. He has expressed interest in the federal law enforcement field when his football career comes to an end. "I kind of like the special forces side and that kind of thing," Kroeger said at the Carolina Panthers local pro day. "So that seems more like the special forces of law enforcement and then just talking to people like Secret Service, FBI, Marshals, those are kind of the three that stood out to me from something that I want to do."
