Todd Graffagnini's Saints training camp observations for  Thursday, Aug. 1

Offense, defense switch jersey colors

Photos from New Orleans Saints Training Camp presented by Verizon on August 1, 2019.

1.      Jersey switch: As the team opened practice No. 6 in the indoor facility at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center it was noticed the the two sides had switched jersey colors from week one. The offense is now wearing the black jerseys with gold numbers, defense white jerseys with black numbers. Typically the offense wears the same jersey color during the week of practice leading up to that week's game so unless the pattern changes the Saints should wear black jerseys next Friday night in the preseason opener vs Minnesota in the Mercedes Benz Superdome.

2.      Laundry on the field: NFL officials were on hand at practice monitoring the team periods and throwing flags for infractions, though not stopping the individual play for any pre-snap penalty. They will be here for two more days at practice and also addressed the media on rules changes for the 2019 season and points of emphasis that were discussed in the offseason.

3.      Morstead is MONEY: Heading into his 11th season with the Saints, Super Bowl champion and 2012 Pro Bowl punter Thomas Morstead continues to amaze as he works on his craft. Distance, angle toward the sideline, high end over end and short, knuckleballs, he can do it all on cue. Through six practices, Morstead has not hit one punt that hasn't turned over as a spiral unless he wants it that way. Rarely in the NFL can a team utilize its punter as a weapon…and the Saints have one in Morstead.
