Notes from New Orleans Saints-Houston Texans game

Saints now 0-2 this preseason

With the 16-9 loss to the Houston Texans, New Orleans drops to 0-2 on the preseason. The Saints return to action on Friday, Aug. 26 when they host their first game of the 2016 preseason at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome against the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

·         The captains for Saturday's contest were QB Drew Brees, LB Dannell Ellerbe, RB Mark Ingram, DE Cameron Jordan and T Zach Strief.

·         Brees made the start and played the first three series, completing five-of-eight passes for 29 yards with one interception.

·         Entering in the second quarter in relief of Brees and playing into the fourth quarter, QB Luke McCown threw for 118 yards on 14-of-19 passing (74 percent) with a QB rating of 89.4. He added 25 yards on three rushes, picking up a key first down on a 15-yard rush in the fourth quarter.

·         QB Garrett Grayson played all but one series in the fourth quarter, finishing with 50 yards on four-of-15 passing with one interception. He also posted a 16-yard rush in the fourth quarter.

·         RB Daniel Lasco, chosen in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL draft, rushed for 24 yards on 12 carries. He also added one tackle on a punt return.

·         WR Brandon Coleman posted a game-high six catches for a team-high 47 yards, with a long reception of 16 yards.

·         WR Tommylee Lewis caught two passes for 25 yards with a long catch of 16 yards, and added two returned kicks for 37 yards and one returned punt for three yards.

·         S Vonn Bell, selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft, finished with a game-high seven solo tackles, including a sack in the fourth quarter and one special teams stop.

·         DT Nick Fairley registered a sack of QB Brock Osweiler in the first quarter, finishing with four total tackles (two solo).

·         CB Delvin Breaux started and posted four tackles, including two solo tackles and one tackle for loss, and one pass defensed.

·         Making the start opposite Breaux, CB P.J. Williams intercepted Osweiler in the end zone midway through the second quarter. He finished with two tackles, including one solo tackle.

·         LB Craig Robertson recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter on the Texans' four-yard line that gave possession back to New Orleans. He added three tackles (one solo) and one special teams stop.

·         DL C.J. Wilson collected a sack of QB Brandon Weeden in the fourth quarter, totaling three solo tackles.

·         LB James Laurinaitis registered five total tackles, including two solo tackles.

·         Ellerbe recorded six tackles, four of which were solo tackles.

·         S Roman Harper recorded one tackle and one pass defensed.

·         K Connor Barth connected on a 33-yard field goal in the third quarter, his first attempt of the preseason.

·         K Kai Forbath nailed both of his field-goal attempts, a 37-yarder and 27-yarder, both of which came in the fourth quarter.

·         P Thomas Morstead punted six times for 267 total yards (44.5 avg.) with a long of 57 yards and a net average of 41.2.
