The New Orleans Saints announced Wednesday that they have signed fullback Greg Jones to a one-year contract. The announcement was made by Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Jones, 6 feet 1, 251 pounds, is a 10-year NFL veteran who was originally a second round draft pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2004. Jones spent the first nine years of his NFL career in Jacksonville before spending the 2013 season with the Houston Texans. Overall in his 10-year NFL career, Jones has played in 131 games with 72 starts and has career totals of 272 carries for 913 yards with 10 touchdowns and 73 receptions for 471 yards and three touchdowns. In 2013, Jones played in all 16 games with five starts as Houston's lead blocker as he rushed twice for two yards with five receptions for 34 yards as he blocked for a Texans rushing attack that ran for at least 100 yards in eight games. During his tenure in Jacksonville, Jones served as the lead blocker for running backs Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew who combined for four Pro Bowls between 2007-11. The Columbia, S.C. native was named a first alternate to the Pro Bowl in 2007 as the Jaguars ranked second in the NFL in rushing, averaging 149.4 yards per game.

In four seasons at Florida State, Jones started 21-of-42 games and finished his career with 480 rushes for 2,635 yards and 23 touchdowns along with 24 receptions for 153 yards. Jones served as a team captain for the Seminoles as a senior in 2003 and led the team with 618 yards rushing and seven touchdowns on 144 carries, while adding nine receptions for 52 yards. He graduated with a degree in sports management.
