Saints add tight end Mason Pline after spending season on 49ers practice squad

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced that the team has been awarded tight end Mason Pline off waivers. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:

  1. Pline joins the Saints fresh off a season with the San Francisco 49ers. The 6-foot-7, 260-pound tight end signed with San Francisco as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft and would spend 15 weeks with the team's practice squad in 2025. Pline recorded one special teams tackles during the 2024 preseason.
  2. The tight end finished his collegiate career at Furman University. In 13 games with the Paladins, Pline recorded 32 receptions for 287 yards and four touchdowns. His most productive game for Furman came against the Western Carolina Catamounts on Oct. 21, 2023 when he recorded four receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown. Pline's four receiving touchdowns led the team for the season.
  3. Prior to Furman, the Fowler, Mich., native attended Ferris State University. He started as a basketball player for the school for three seasons where he played 83 games and averaged 6.9 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game in 15.5 minutes of action.
  4. He converted to football full time in 2021 and played two seasons for the Ferris State Bulldogs, helping them to back-to-back Division II National Championships in 2021 and 2022.
  5. He attended Fowler High School where he averaged 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists and earned all-state, all-area and all-conference honors in basketball. He also played football during his high school career.
