Key takeaways from Sean Payton's Aug. 18 media availability

Coach Payton met with the media following Friday's practice

After Thursday's fully padded practice, the New Orleans Saints practiced in helmets and shells against the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday in Costa Mesa, Calif. "I thought overall it was a little bit crisper today than yesterday," Coach Sean Payton said.

Cornerback Delvin Breaux's surgery "went well," Payton said. "The time frame is somewhere at that, give or take, six-week mark."

Payton spoke about playing in the Chargers' unique venue. "I'm quite certain it'll be a little bit like (Yulman Stadium on Tulane's campus) in regards of the closeness of the fans to where you're at on the field."

Payton said that he and the coaches will meet after Friday's practice to discuss playing time for key starters such as quarterback Drew Brees and defensive end Cam Jordan. "A lot of it will be just our goal as to what we want to get out of the first half," Payton said.

Center Max Unger has been cleared and has returned to practice. "I'm quite certain that we'll see him either in week 3 or week 4 of the preseason," Payton said.
