Key takeaways from Sean Payton's Aug. 16 media availability

Coach Payton met with the media following Wednesday's practice

New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton announced Wednesday, Aug, 16 that cornerback Delvin Breaux will be out for about the next six weeks with a fractured fibula."He's going to have the surgery (in Green Bay), I believe tomorrow, and then quickly get into rehab," Payton said following practice at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center.

Payton confirmed that the team parted way with its two orthopedists, Deryk Jones and Misty Suri. "We felt as an organization that change was going to be necessary for us."

Saints top draft pick Marshon Lattimore returned to practice. "We'e optimistic that he's going to get some good work in this week and be able to play (against the Chargers on Sunday)," Payton said.

The team is scheduled to have a joint practice with the Chargers on Thursday and Friday, with a walkthrough on Saturday before its preseason game Sunday.

Payton said that he has worked with the Chargers coaching staff to make sure both teams get the most out of the upcoming joint practices. "Everything is laid out. We've discussed the positions on the field, the situations, the personnel, the drills ... everything."
