New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced that the club has agreed to terms with free agent tackle Jonathan Mendoza. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:
- Mendoza joins the Saints as an undrafted free agent from the University of Louisville. Mendoza started 13 games at right tackle for the Cardinals where he helped the team to a Sun Bowl victory. He reunites with college teammates quarterback Tyler Shough and cornerback Quincy Riley.
- Before attending Louisville, Mendoza played four years at Yale where he played alongside Saints wide receiver Mason Tipton. In 2023, he was named a first team All-Ivy selection and was the co-recipient of the Fredric Woodrow "Woody" Knapp Memorial Trophy, awarded to an outstanding member of the Yale football team who best typifies the cheerful disposition, leadership qualities and unselfish devotion to others. Mendoza graduated with a bachelor's degree from Yale.
- Standing at 6'9, 310 lbs., Mendoza is tied for the tallest active player in the NFL, matching Detroit Lions tackle Dan Skipper as the only other currently rostered player listed at the height.
- Mendoza previously tried out with the Buffalo Bills in rookie minicamp earlier in the offseason.
- The Westhampton Beach, New York native attended Westhampton Beach High School. Mendoza was a team captain in his senior year, recording 11 starts at right tackle and earned All-County, Second Team All-Long Island and Third Team All-State honors.
