Coming off a spectacular rookie season, wide receiver Michael Thomas looks to continue his excellence on the field during 2017 New Orleans Saints Training Camp presented by Verizon.
Drafted 47th overall out of Ohio State, Thomas reeled in highlight catch after highlight catch during training camp last season. Once that play translated to the field during the preseason games it was safe to say that Saints fans knew they were watching a special player. In his rookie season, Thomas went on to lead the team and set rookie franchise records with 92 catches for 1,137 yards receiving and nine touchdowns.
With another year of NFL coaching and training, look for "Can't Guard Mike" to take his game to the next level. Joining Drew Brees and Ted Ginn Jr. Jr., the Saints are set to have one of the top receiving corps in the league. Add in the fact that their quarterback is Drew Brees and the running backs are Zach Line and Mark Ingram, the receivers should be in line for a successful season as defenses will not be able to key in on them.
Saints Coach Sean Payton spoke highly of Thomas this offseason:
"I think one of his great strengths is his ability to work and focus. He truly loves playing and so, gamedays are that much more important. He's very competitive.
"Fortunately, his competitive nature and his ability to focus on just playing receiver and his ability to focus on each rep – it's hard for him to have a walk-through. He's one of those guys, he's jogging at least half-speed, if not more, through everything he's doing. I would say his run after the catch, and we thought when we drafted this player that he had that, but I think he's tough when he catches the ball in space for any defender."
