COLLEGE CAREER– The Saints used the 19th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft on tough and physical offensive lineman Trevor Penning with the Trevor Penning with the expectation that he would compete for playing time along the New Orleans offensive front as a rookie. The 6-foot-7-inch, 322-pounder brings athleticism and experience at both left and right tackle to the position group. A native of Clear Lake, Iowa, Penning saw action in 37 games over his career with 33 starts. He started all 12 games at left tackle in the fall of 2021 and was the only offensive lineman in the country to be named as a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, which is annually awarded to the FCS national offensive player of the year. In 2021, Penning was also named to nine All-America teams, including the AP All-America team, and was named Phil Steele's offensive lineman of the year.
2021 (Fall) – Started all 12 games at LT on the way to consensus first-team All-American and All-Missouri Valley honors…Anchored a line that helped the Panthers convert 25-of-30 red zone scoring attempts…Helped the Panthers rush for 1,686 yards and throw for 2,679 passing yards…Ranked as the season's top run blocker among FCS tackles by Pro Football Focus. 2020 (Played in spring of 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic) – Appeared in and started in six games in a COVID-19 shortened season postponed from the fall…Made five starts at LT and one at RT…Named honorable mention All-Missouri Valley and to Bruce Feldman's College Football Freaks list. 2019– Played and started in all 15 games, seeing action primarily at left tackle with right guard mixed in, as the Panthers advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2015. 2018– Saw action in four games. 2017– Redshirted.
PERSONAL – Attended Newman Catholic (Mason City, Iowa) HS, where he was named a team captain for the Knights…Earned first-team All-District honors and selected to the All-Area team…Also lettered in basketball and track and field…Graduated in December with a degree in movement and exercise science and a minor in coaching…Was a teammate of his younger brother, Jared on the UNI offensive line from 2019-21.
